Foraminotomy Kerissons

A Foraminotomy Kerrison is a surgical tool, also called a Kerrison rongeur or punch, that surgeons use to carefully remove bone and tissue during a spinal foraminotomy procedure. It has a plier-like handle and a cutting tip with upbiting jaws designed to slide between the bone and the nerve’s protective covering (dura) to decompress the nerve root by removing excess bone, such as from bone spurs. The instrument comes in different sizes, and its design allows the surgeon to cut bone precisely while protecting the spinal cord and nerves.
